Every home has a story, and ours is just beginning.
Our family is in the process of moving to Glouster Ohio, and the journey has already been full of excitement, planning, and big decisions. Over the past year we’ve spent more and more time in the Glouster community. What started through my husband’s work in the area quickly turned into something much bigger—we fell in love with the people, the hills, and the strong sense of community.
Before long, Glouster began to feel like home.
As a Realtor, I believe a home is more than just a structure. Instead, it is the place where life happens. It is where families grow, memories are made, and communities are built. Because of that belief, choosing where to plant roots for our own family mattered deeply to us.
After spending time in the area and getting to know the community, we realized this was where we wanted to build our future.
From Vision to Reality
The property we purchased in Glouster currently has an older home on it. While the house served its purpose for many years, it no longer meets the needs of our family.
Because of that, we decided to start fresh.
Our plan is to remove the existing structure and build a new home designed specifically for our family and the hillside lot.
Building a home from the ground up is exciting. At the same time, it can feel a little intimidating. Fortunately, construction has always been familiar territory for me.
I grew up around the home building industry. My stepfather owns a construction company, and I spent years watching homes take shape from foundation to finish. My mother is a big part of the company and designs beautiful spaces for people to live their lives. As a result, I developed a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and thoughtful design.
Now, years later, I get to experience that process firsthand as we design and build our own home. As we began planning our move, we realized that moving to Glouster Ohio wasn’t just about building a house. It was about becoming part of a community that already meant a lot to our family.
A Home Built for the Land
One of the things we love most about our property is the landscape.
Like much of the Glouster area, the land features beautiful rolling hills and wooded surroundings. These natural features are part of what makes Southeast Ohio so special.
Because of the slope of the lot, we had to think carefully about the design of the house. Everything—from driveway placement to the layout of the home—needed to work with the natural shape of the land.
Rather than fighting the hillside, we chose to embrace it.
Our vision is a modern farmhouse-style home with clean lines and warm wood accents. At the same time, we want the home to feel welcoming and practical for everyday family life.
Most importantly, we want it to feel connected to the land it sits on.
- The original home currently sitting on our Glouster property. While it has served its purpose for many years, our plan is to begin fresh by clearing the lot and preparing the hillside for our new build.
- Our vision for the future: a modern black farmhouse designed to work with the natural hillside landscape, featuring warm wood accents and a wraparound deck to enjoy the beautiful Southeast Ohio views.
Why We Are Moving to Glouster Ohio
This move represents more than just building a house. Instead, it marks the beginning of a new chapter for our family.
My husband is serving in the community, and our children will grow up surrounded by the pride and traditions of small-town life. Because of that, we are excited to invest in Glouster and become part of its story.
For me personally, this journey also connects my passion for homes with my career in real estate. By going through the building process ourselves, I will gain even deeper insight into the decisions, challenges, and excitement that come with creating a home.
Follow Along: Behind the Build
Over the coming months, I will share updates as we move through each stage of the process.
First, we will begin demolition and site preparation. After that, construction will slowly start to take shape.
If you have ever been curious about what it takes to build a home from the ground up, I hope this series gives you a behind-the-scenes look at the journey.
And if you are thinking about buying, selling, or moving to Glouster or the surrounding Athens County area, I would love to help guide you through the process.
